The research is based on three examples of Czech Gothic architecture: the St. Wenceslas Chapel in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, the St. Catherine Chapel, and the Chapel of the Holy Cross in Karlštejn Castle. Gothic architecture is often viewed as a synthesis of structural elements: pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and elongated windows. However, in this study, I would like to examine the interior ornamentation of the architecture—the interaction of color and stone. The goal is to trace how decorative materials contribute to shaping the artistic image of sacred space.
